Chris started aikido in 1977 in Leicester with David Lenton (yondan). From 1982 he trained with Kanetsuka Shihan and senseis Mike Holloway, Dee Chen and Eric Beake at Tenpukan dojo and later Shinmeikan dojo in London. In 1984 he started training at the Slough dojo under Jack Poole and then Paul Shepherd while still training regularly at Shinmeikan.
Chris has been heavily influenced by Mr Smith Shihan from the outset of his Aikido career and along with Sensei Shepherd joined the West Mid Aikiki (later the UKA) in 1989 . Chris was awarded Shodan by Chiba sensei in 1991 and became assistant coach soon after. Chris is now a recognised BAB coach and childrens coach and was awarded Nidan in 2003 by Bill Smith Shihan. He was awarded Sandan at the UKA 2006 Winter School.
As well as senseis Kanetsuka and Chiba Chris has been priviliged to train with visiting senseis Fujita , Sekiya , Kitaura , Shibata , Tamura, Yamada , Endo amongst others and especially Moriteru Ueshiba whio is current Doshu. Chris' main influence currently is his Miyo-Shin-Juku house instuctor Peter Brady (Rokudan so hombu).
